Plasma and LCD televisions are getting more and more popular as they are becoming more affordable and easier to hang on plaster walls. Prior to the invention of televisions that must be hung on a wall, placing a television in a room was easy, because it simply meant that a television stand was needed. Television stands could be placed against any wall in a room. And, it is easy to move televisions on stands to other locations within a room with relatively little effort. Plasma and LCD televisions, on the other hand, which are typically mounted on a wall, become an almost permanent fixture once they’re hung.

Hanging a plasma or LCD television on a plaster wall is a job that can be completed by many individuals who would classify themselves as somewhat handy around the house. Most installation kits come with instructions that, when followed step by step, are fairly easy to follow. However, for anyone who doesn’t know the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench, a professional installer may be the best option! For a little bit of money, an installer can be trusted to hang a plasma or LCD television on a plaster wall safely, with no danger of it falling.

After selecting and purchasing a plasma or LCD television, the next step is to purchase a mounting kit that will fit the television’s particular model and size. If the television is new, the store where it was purchased probably also carries mounting kits. Store employees should be able to assist in choosing a good fit for the television. However, it’s always a good idea to do a little bit of research prior to the entire purchase. For example, some wall mounts come with the ability to tilt, and others do not. Prior to purchasing a mount, it’s important to determine the features that will be best suited for the location where the television will be permanently placed.

After all purchases have been made, the mount must be installed and the television must be affixed to it. This means it’s time to figure out the best spot to hang it. There are several factors to consider when determining the right place. First, it’s easier to hang these types of televisions on interior walls because hiding the wiring that goes from the back of the television to the power source is less complex than it would be if hung on an exterior wall. Second, the placement of the television must work with the rest of the room. For example, if there is a couch that must stay in a particular location, the television may need to be mounted on the wall facing the couch – whether it’s an exterior or interior wall or not. Or, if there is a regularly used fireplace in the room, the television should probably not be hung above it.

There are not a huge number of tools required to correctly and successfully mount a plasma or LCD television. However, if these tools are not already owned and cannot be easily borrowed, it may be best to consider hiring a professional to install the mounting kit and television. However, for anyone up to the challenge, mounting a plasma or LCD television can be a great learning experience.
